5 Healthy Habits to Adopt in the New Year

It's a new year, and with it, we're all expected to make a new “us.” It's just three hundred and sixty-five days, but a year can mean so much more. It offers change, hope, and a chance to change your life for the better. Since it can be frustrating to have to figure out how to reinvent yourself when you're coming off the holidays, here are a few simple and healthy habits that take the thinking out of things.

1. Get Some Much Needed "Me Time"

Stress is running rampant these days! Nobody seems to have time, and it's challenging to focus on taking care of yourself when you are so busy taking care of the countless people around you. It's imperative to think about yourself, even though some people can feel guilty for doing it. You deserve to be happy and take some time to relax.

Treat yourself to somecupcake bath bombs, listen to an audiobook, and just let yourself relax for at least an hour a week. Think of it as an appointment you can't drop. If you can't sit still that long, there are also the options of hiking, playing video games, or even just letting yourself have a relaxing heavy nap one afternoon a week. 2. Watch What You Put into Your Body

Just because junk food can be cheap and convenient doesn't mean what it's doing for your body is any good. If you invest in yourself and take a little time and shop around for deals, you can quickly find a lot of healthier alternatives that can help your lifestyle.

Try adding more whole foods into your daily meal plan. Spinach instead of more cheese on a sandwich, a cup of cubed pineapple instead of sugary candy--it's easy to upgrade what you eat.  Consider oatmeal and fruit for breakfast instead of sugary cereal or doughnuts.

Also, it may seem like old news, but switching soda for water is still a great idea. Be kind to your body, and it'll be easier to enjoy all the things this next year will bring.

3. Take Care of Your Skin

Another year has passed, and it can be hard realizing that you're aging. Nobody wants to think about getting older and leaving their beautiful years behind. All you need for easy workouts is a couple of five-pound weights and a cheap yoga mat. It's easy to find courses for almost any kind of physical hobby these days. Don't be afraid to give yourself that chance!

5. Keep Moisturized

Winter can wreak havoc on skin and nails. With dry air cracking your knuckles, it's easy to forget that your lungs and nose are getting punished, too. All that hard, cold, dry air can really wear your body down.
