Saint Patrick’s Day is an awesome holiday. As a kid, I would always get so excited because a school classmate would bring in Irish Soda Bread ever year. The holiday celebrates Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland and the Irish culture itself. Known for the Irish colors of green, orange, and white, gold chocolate covered coins, dancing, and drinking, Saint Patrick’s Day is a favorite for kids and parents alike.
Although the day started as a Christian holiday to remember the martyrdom of Saint Patrick, the holiday has evolved so that anyone can celebrate the Irish heritage and community. It’s a holiday based around celebration and fun!
The festive mood that Saint Patrick’s Day brings is a perfect craft day for the kids. Have them each make one and hang in their room for a fun and memorable way to spend the Irish holiday. Each kid can pick out their own essential oil combination to make it special. Plus, these are cute enough you can make one for yourself and keep it in your room or car!
You will need:
Step 1: Purchase or make a felt shamrock. Check out Michaels or another craft store, but if you’re handy with a needle and thread this would be an easy sewing project.
Step 2: Use a hole punch to punch out a hole to tie a loop of thread onto the shamrock. Make sure you use a heavy-duty hole punch, or it won’t work. You can substitute the hole punch by using scissors to create a small hole in the felt. We’ll use this to hang our air freshener!
Optional: Decorate with glitter, paint, or stickers!
Step 3: Put a few drops of essential oils onto the shamrock. We recommend using a lucky combination of Peppermint and Rosemary for this “green” Saint Patrick’s Day craft!
