You might be looking for some fun activities or projects you can do with them to keep you all happy. Have you ever thought about putting that stash of Essential Oils to good use? Yes, you can use many of those oils that you love with your children as well.
Today, you’re going to discover a few really fun DIY projects you can do with essential oil. These are a great way to bond with the family. They’re a break from the traditional trip to the park or puzzle – and you’ll get to unlock all the benefits your favorite essential oils have to offer!
Before you get into our very favorite essential oil crafts, we need to talk about safety – especially if you’re going to be crafting with the kids.
First things first, let’s talk safety. When using Essential Oils with kids, you have to ensure that you are using kid-safe oils.
Citrus oils are a great choice because they are safe for children but also encourage feelings of cheer and happiness.
One of our favorites is REVIVE’s Citrus Delight. This is a blend of citrus and vanilla that can help you feel refreshed and uplifted.
There are a few other gentle oils you could consider using, such as:
Another appropriate option could be REVIVE’s Stress Easy which is kid-safe, but also a super calming blend that may be very helpful right now.
No matter which you end up going with, the collection of organic essential oils we offer here at Revive is as good as you’ll find – so once you’ve picked your project, head over to the site for all your essentials!
First, let’s talk carrier oils and other safety tips.
The next thing you want to remember is to always take care to dilute your essential oil when children are using them. As you know, they are very potent and can be harsh for a little one.
Don’t allow your younger kids to handle the bottle to add the drops to your essential oil project; instead, let the child count them as you add the oil to the recipe.
In addition, no matter what their age, it is recommended that the Essential Oil be added to the carrier oil before handling it with your hands/skin.
Some of our favorite carrier oils are tea tree oil, fractionated coconut oil, or jojoba oil. The perfect carrier for you will definitely depend on what you’re crafting – so do your research, or follow the recipes we share later on carefully!
Also, you should protect the surface that you are working on with a barrier of some sort; a disposable plastic tablecloth or a large tray should work just fine.
Now that we’ve got the safety precautions out of the way, let’s get to the good part. Below, you will find 3 DIY projects that are appropriate for different age groups.
Let the older kids get creative by making up their own blends to use in the recipe. So. go gather up your supplies and have fun!

Combine all of the dry ingredients into a large bowl and make a well in the center. In a separate small bowl, mix the essential oil and food coloring (if using) with your carrier oil, then pour into dry ingredients.
Add water into a bowl and stir together well. You may knead it by hand a bit and assess if it needs more flour. If so, add in small amounts slowly, giving time for it to absorb.
In a bowl, mix together coconut oil and essential oils. Stir in sugar and flower buds if using. Scoop into the jar and close tightly. To use: Apply in circles to damp skin to gently exfoliate and calm your mind.
These supplies are available at most craft stores
This is a project you can get really creative with. Choose any beads you like that coordinate together and string them on the stretch cord as desired. When finished, wrap around your wrist to make sure it will fit, if not, adjust it. Tie the string tightly with a double knot and glue if desired.
To wear: apply 2-3 drops to the lava stones, put on your wrist, and inhale as needed. The scent should last for hours but fade by the next day so you can wear a different oil the next time.
