Steaming the face is a great way to purify and open up the skin. It has a whole host of benefits from cleansing to soothing that makes it a wonderful treat for your skin that’s cost effective and easy. It is well loved by people with all skin types including acne-prone skin. Steam can help open and unclog those pores.
Benefits of facial steaming include cleansing, soothing, and hydrating. In addition, it can help promote circulation, loosen dead skin cells, removes trapped oils and blackheads, and promotes collagen. It can also help your skin to absorb skincare products properly and effectively.
Facial steaming can be done at home easily. You’ll just need hot water, a bowl or pot, a towel, and your essential oils. Simmer water in a pot so that it’s hot but not boiling. If you have a candy thermometer your water should be about 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from heat.
Position your face about 18 inches away from the pot by moving in slowly. Do not get any closer than 12 inches away or you’ll risk broken capillaries in the skin. If you’d like, cover your head loosely with a towel to keep the steam in towards your face.
To use essential oils with your facial steam, I’d encourage you to put a few drops on your towel and inhale them that way when the steam reaches the towel. Essential oils break down in heat, so I would not recommend putting them in the hot water directly. Another great option is to apply a facial oil with essential oils after the steam when your pores are open and ready to receive skincare treatments.
For a relaxing experience, try adding lavender, geranium, or frankincense oils. For an invigorating, wake up experience, try adding lemon, orange, or eucalyptus oils.
