Essential Oils for Men

Essential oils definitely tend to be catered to women more than to men. But why is that? Essential oils come in many different scents that are often used in men’s care anyways, so men can (and should) use these oils to eliminate harsh chemicals while staying fresh. You can use essential oils in bath and body care, in the bedroom for massage, or in any room with a diffuser.

Here are some of the best essential oils for men:

  • Bergamot
  • Cedarwood
  • Cinnamon
  • Clove
  • Frankincense
  • Grapefruit
  • Orange
  • Rosemary
  • Peppermint
  • Ylang Ylang

Bergamot

Made from cold-pressed bergamot rinds, the fruity, delicately spicy aroma can be diffused whenever stress or tension is high. Bergamot oil is known to reduce feelings of anxiety and fatigue. It also contains linalool, which is a known anti-inflammatory that can help reduce pain.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood has a woodsy aroma that is warm and soothing to promote feelings of vitality and wellness after a stressful day. It can be added to skincare and hair care to purify and nourish the skin and hair.

Cinnamon

This oil has a warm and spicy scent, reminiscent of winter holidays. It is a great oil to use on sore, aching muscles, and has been known to help with blood circulation and libido. When used in aromatherapy, cinnamon oil can also support the immune system. Topically, it has been known to repel insects.

Clove

This oil has a sweet-spicy aroma with a fruity top-note fragrance. This is a warm scent that is perfect for diffusing on colder fall and winter nights. Because clove contains eugenol, it acts as a warming agent when used topically, making it great for massage.

Frankincense

Long revered in the Middle East, this oil is known for its comforting properties and is useful for mental peace and relaxation. The sap is extracted from Boswellia tree bark, hardened into a resin, and put through a steam distillation process to achieve this wonderfully aromatic essential oil.

Grapefruit

Cold-pressed from the rind of the grapefruit, its properties include revitalizing and disinfecting, making is a perfect energizing room freshener. It is often used to create a positive, healing environment. It can also help to fade blemishes and skin imperfections.

Orange

Orange oil is cold pressed from the rinds of sweet oranges. It is most commonly used to lift spirits and reduce stress. Orange oil may also be used as a household cleaner - it is known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Many people find the scent of orange oil is a pleasant aroma for DIY body care and perfumes.

Rosemary

Rosemary Oil has been known to aid in regulating oily skin and hair without diminishing the natural oils of the body. It can also act as a neutralizer to rejuvenate dry skin conditions and acne-prone skin. Its alluring scent promotes increased mental activity and blood circulation, which in turn can uplift the spirit and give you that boost of focus and energy.

Peppermint

Our 100% Pure Peppermint Oil is an exquisitely refreshing essential oil that contains Menthol and Menthone- the compounds that give this oil such a minty, pungent scent. This oil helps to calm emotions, as well as soothe minor aches and pains. Its wide range of uses and invigorating fragrance make Peppermint Oil a must-have for essential oil collectors.

Ylang Ylang

Often used to give a boost to dreary emotions, ylang ylang may help to inspire feelings of creativity, self-worth, and a real sense of peace. It is often used in the bedroom to promote sensuality and romance.

Men tend to prefer warmer, heavier scents like cinnamon and cedarwood, but you can use citrus and herby scents to help lift the mood and lighten the scent for everyday use. A drop or two of floral essential oil can help switch things up too!

Essential Oil Recipes for Men’s Cologne

Many of the men’s cologne that are found in drugstores and department stores contain artificial fragrances or chemicals. In addition to just not being great for your health, these chemicals and fragrances can cause allergic reactions. So, let’s talk about how essential oils can replace these artificial concoctions.

How to Make the Essential Oil Cologne

  • 20 drops essential oil
  • 75 teaspoons of 100 proof rum or white rum

Use a small funnel or pipette to add essential oil to the bottle, then add the 100-proof alcohol to top off. Spray onto wrists, neck, or hair.

Using a 100-proof alcohol preserves the essential oil to last for months. You could also use water and have a perfectly good cologne that will last a few weeks.
