It’s back to school time beauties! While you’re stocking up on the usual back-to-school supplies, keep in mind that essential oils can help you and your family live a happy, healthy school year. Whether you’re greeting the start of the school year with a big sigh of relief, a twinge of sadness, or a little of each, adding aromatherapy to your back to school supply list – is a must!
Incorporating essential oils into your daily routine may seem like a daunting task, but it is easier than it seems. Essential oil is basically a highly-concentrated oil distilled from leaves, plants, and roots that stimulates the mind, body, and soul. Enjoy the time shared with the ones you love while the aroma simultaneously promotes positive energy, focus, and clarity, and boosts the immune system; the list goes on!
Please use essential oils knowledgeably and with caution. Peppermint, rosemary, and eucalyptus are some of the most potent essential oils on the market. With children and essential oils always remember: less is best. Just a couple of drops are all you need to see and feel a difference!
When you’re applying oils topically, always dilute with a carrier oil, like coconut oil, as the potency can cause skin irritation. We recommend a 2:1 ratio; 2 drops of essential oil to every 1 drop of carrier oil. Affected areas, such as the bottom of the feet and toes, or the back of the neck and on the wrists are common areas of application. Do not ingest essential oils.
Also, remember everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products. We suggest a patch test first. Before starting to use a new product, place a small amount on the inside of your elbow and wait 48 to 72 hours. If you do not notice irritation, redness, swelling, itching, or burning on that spot, it is okay for you to use.
Children can be germ magnets, so added immune protection is always needed. Add 3-4 drops of our Pirates of the Sea blend (Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon, Rosemary, and Eucalyptus) to your diffuser to jump-start your immune system and build up strength and vitality in both physical and mental state of mind.
Keep lunch boxes, desks, chairs and other surfaces clean with the help of our 100% pure, natural, and unrefined Lemon Oil. Dilute as needed and clean without the harsh chemicals of conventional cleaners!
Some children seem to take everything in stride while others seem to have the summer blues. Ease the transition with our Happy Citrus (Orange, Lemon, Mandarin, Clementine, Tangerine, Bergamot, and Vanilla) essential oil blend to refresh and wake your senses for a full day of learning ahead.
It can be especially hard to settle down and concentrate on homework this time of year. Try diffusing 3-4 drops of Frankincense essential oil to promote a sense of clarity and focus. For your middle or high school students, rosemary, lemon, peppermint, and basil essential oils are all reputed to help with concentration, memory, and alertness. You can diffuse one of these (or our blends which contains many of them) in the room where your child is doing homework.
Phew! The school day is over, but you need a little help to relieve the pressure of your first few days or even a large workload. Try diffusing 3-4 drops of our Stress-Free (Bergamot, Patchouli, Orange, Ylang Ylang and Grapefruit) blend to help release tension or you may apply topically diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil.
Later summer bedtimes, longer daylight, and the night before the first day of the school year can leave your child staring at the ceiling instead of getting a good night’s sleep. Apply a drop of Lavender essential oil on a pillow to promote relaxation. Diffuse 3-4 drops of our Rest and Relax essential oil blend (Lavender, Marjoram, Copaiba Balsam, Roman Chamomile and Clary Sage) to promote a night of restful sleep.
