A Bride’s Guide to Glowing on Her Big Day

Guest post from Jori Hamilton.

Whether your wedding is big or small, fancy or simple, expensive or frugal, every bride wants to look and feel her best on her big day. There are plenty of stereotypes about being a “blushing bride.” But, it’s more important to have that healthy, beautiful glow as you walk down the aisle.

Hiring a hair and makeup artist is an easy way to look your best. But, that’s not feasible for everyone. And, there’s more to looking great on your wedding day than just primping a few hours beforehand.

The best way to achieve a natural, beautiful glow on your big day is to start a plan of action a few weeks before your wedding. Developing healthy habits now, including exercising, eating right, and adopting a skincare routine, will boost your confidence and make you feel radiant on your big day.

Let’s cover a few tips you can use to achieve that glow.

You Are What You Eat (And Drink)

Changing your diet is one of the simplest, yet most effective, things you can do for your skin. Certain foods can produce excess oil in your skin and might lead to breakouts, including:

  • Refined grains and sugars
  • Dairy products
  • Chocolate
  • Fast food

Alternatively, some of the best foods for glowing skin are green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, berries, fatty fish, and nuts. By making just a few small adjustments to what you eat each day, you’ll notice that your skin looks healthier.

Another key component is making sure you’re drinking enough water. Not coffee, not energy drinks, but water. Dehydrated skin looks dull and flat. When you drink at least eight glasses of water each day, your skin will appear healthier and more elastic. Carry a large water bottle with you at all times to sip throughout the day, and fill it up again the moment it’s empty.

Sweating for the Wedding

It’s not uncommon for brides to want to get in shape before their wedding day. But, regular exercise will do more than help you to stay fit. It can actually improve your skin.

Exercise helps to increase blood flow throughout your body. That flow carries away waste products in the body and delivers nutrients to skin cells, giving you that radiant “glow”.

Working out from home has become incredibly popular over the last year. If you’re on a budget, you don’t necessarily need to invest in a gym membership to exercise. Consider creating a home workout space and use online classes or videos to get in shape without having to feel uncomfortable around others.

Practice Self-Care

Wedding planning is exciting, but it can also be stressful. Studies have shown that stress can harm the overall wellness of your skin. It can even contribute to conditions like acne, psoriasis, and eczema.

Pampering yourself is a wonderful way to reduce stress and improve your skin, all at once.

Self-care looks different for everyone. Try a few different things to find what works for you to eliminate stress and make you feel good. Facials, expensive skincare products, and spray tans might not be in your wedding budget.

But, there are plenty of inexpensive ways to practice self-care that will give you just as many benefits. Try some of the following if you’re stumped for ideas:

  • Create a skincare routine
  • Develop your own skincare products
  • Write in a journal
  • Exfoliate your body
  • Cook your favorite meal
  • Meditate

There is no ideal way to practice self-care. Finding something that makes you feel relaxed is all that matters. Your mental health – and your skin – will thank you.

While this guide isn’t an exhaustive list of everything you can do to look glowing on your big day, these tips can make a big difference in how you look and feel. Start making changes and taking care of yourself now, so the main focus on your wedding day can be enjoying every moment with the love of your life.
