What are the Best Essential Oils for Your Skincare Routine?

Essential oils have gained a lot of popularity in the beauty and wellness communities over the last few years. While we’ve all heard some essential oils mentioned and have maybe already tried some ourselves, it can be difficult to really understand them. You might want to try out as many as you can, but you have to educate yourself on how to use each one first. This is especially important if you’ll be using them as a part of your skincare routine.

There are plenty of essential oils out there that are thought to be able to improve your skin, you just have to know which ones they are. Whether you have dry, oily, combination, or acne-prone skin, there’s an essential oil out there that could work for you.

Keep in mind that essential oils are very concentrated and should often be diluted by a carrier oil, lotion, etc. before applying to your skin. That being said, essential oils can give you excellent results. Love White,  Founder of Love and Snow, tells us how she applies essential oil products. "The concentrated formula requires only a small amount to see results. Apply first by dabbing trouble areas."

Here are some of the best essential oils to add to your skincare routine.

Tea Tree Oil

Many people who struggle with acne will already be familiar withtea tree oil, as it’s been a popular way to fight breakouts for years now. If you take a look at acne products, you’ll likely find tea tree oil in the list of ingredients. Face wash, masks, and moisturizers for acne-prone skin often include tea tree oil, which can be incredibly effective at treating acne, but you can use tea tree oil essential oil as well for something a little stronger. Tea tree oil can be applied directly to the skin, or mixed with a carrier oil to dilute it if you’re worried about irritation.Dr. Ivy Branin, a naturopathic doctor with Simplicity Health Associates, explains some of the benefits of tea tree oil, “it has antifungal and antiseptic properties and it works well with skin infections and acne because it easily mixes with sebaceous secretions and can penetrate the epidermis.”

Lavender Oil

Lavender is one of the most common scents in beauty and skincare products, butlavender oil can give you more than just a pleasant scent. It's also been shown to help in the healing process of minor wounds.” Lavender oil can have even more benefits when mixed with other popular skincare ingredients, like witch hazel and coconut oil.

Unless you’re already a big essential oil fan, you probably haven’t heard ofylang ylang oil before. While it may not be as well-known as some of the other essential oils, this is definitely one you’ll want to add to your beauty cabinet. Rose Essential Oil

Rose has always had an important role in self-care. When many of us think of roses, we often think of them as being very luxurious and special, so it only makes sense that roses have become big in skincare products recently. You can find rose in products like toner and moisturizer or you could try it in the form of essential oils. Stephanie Johnson with The Skyline Agency goes into further detail about the benefits of rose oil, saying that “When it comes to Rose essential oils, many have found it to have some antibacterial properties (much like tea tree) and can be also quite moisturizing and calming for skin that is red and inflamed. It's a rich oil so I think that it is a good idea to be sure to not use too much at once. A little will go a long way.” By adding rose oil to your routine, you can help fight common skin issues like acne and signs of aging.

Find the Right Essential Oil for You
